Occupational therapists work with individuals' to increase their independence in the activities they find most meaningful.

While in the hospital, occupational therapists help to restore individuals to their prior level of independence through teaching individuals how to use adaptive equipment, use compensatory techniques, increasing strength, endurance, and balance to promote their independence for a safe return home.

While in the outpatient clinic, occupational therapists help to refine individuals' skills in order for increase independence in work, leisure, home management, etc.
